In commemorating Kobe Bryant for winning the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player award, Nike created a special version of the Zoom Kobe III for the MVP to wear during the second round of the 2008 NBA Playoffs. 

Nike honors 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player Kobe Bryant with the launch of the limited edition Zoom Kobe III MVP.  This special Zoom Kobe III, first worn by Kobe in the first two games against the Utah Jazz, carries with it the signature Lakers colors of yellow and purple on a white base, with an MVP logo on the tongue.

On June 21, 2008, a limited quantity of the Zoom Kobe III SL MVP Supreme Edition released in the Philippines and Hong Kong.  One week later on June 28, 2008, the United States received it’s share of ZKIII SL MVP Supreme Editions.  Several retailers, including Eastbay Vault, Niketown (Los Angeles, CA), Proper, Foot Locker, UNDFTD (Santa Monica, CA), House of Hoops (Harlem, NY), KB24.com, and NikeStore.com, all received stock of the ZKIII MVP Supreme Edition and made them available for purchase at it’s store/site.  Several of these retailers also received the Special Edition of the ZKIII SL MVP Supreme Editions.  These Special Editions not only included the shoe itself but also a special acrylic box with the MVP logo emblazoned onto the cover and a limited edition Nike MVP T-shirt.  The overall production run for the MVP Supreme Edition of the ZKIII SL is said to be around 700 pairs worldwide, 72 of which are Special Editions. 

This synthetic leather (SL) version of the ZKIII features a white, purple, and varsity maize color scheme.  An MVP logo is featured on each shoe’s tongue.
